President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cautioned political leaders across Nigeria to refrain from actions that could weaken the nation’s democracy.
In a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, marking the official end of emergency rule in Rivers State, Tinubu emphasized that citizens cannot fully enjoy the dividends of democracy in an environment dominated by conflict and insecurity.
“The people who voted us into power expect to reap the fruits of democracy. However, that expectation will remain unrealizable in an atmosphere of violence, anarchy, and insecurity borne by misguided political activism and Machiavellian manipulations among stakeholders,” Tinubu stated.
The president highlighted the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government at both state and federal levels. According to him, political harmony is essential to driving development, maintaining stability, and fostering national progress.
Tinubu urged political stakeholders to put aside selfish interests, avoid divisive tactics, and work collectively for peace and the advancement of the country. He stressed that Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when leaders focus on unity and prioritize the welfare of the people over personal or partisan gains.
