A tragic incident has occurred in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, where an 18-year-old farmer was killed during a clash with a herder.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon in Jatori village, according to reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama. The deceased, identified as Isaye Kundili, was working on his millet and beans farm when a herder reportedly led his cattle into the field.
Eyewitnesses revealed that an altercation ensued when Kundili attempted to drive the cattle away. The situation escalated, and the herder allegedly shot the teenager in the chest with a bow and arrow before fleeing the scene.
Kundili was rushed to the Primary Health Care Centre in Gubio, but medical officials confirmed his death while he was receiving treatment. His remains were later handed over to his relatives and buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that investigations were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Authorities are reportedly working closely with the herders’ union to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over farmer-herder clashes in northern Nigeria, a conflict that continues to threaten peace and rural livelihoods.
