The death toll from the August 27 police shooting at the Owode Onirin Spare Parts Market in Lagos has risen to six, fueling fresh outrage and demands for justice.
According to PUNCH Metro, the incident was allegedly carried out by four mobile policemen, led by Abiodun Hakeem Ariori, who stormed the market and opened fire indiscriminately. Four traders were killed instantly, while several others sustained severe injuries.
Officers in Custody, Leader Surrenders
Former Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the officers involved were arrested and detained. Ariori, who was earlier declared wanted, later surrendered himself to the authorities.
More Victims Succumb to Injuries
The tragedy worsened when two additional traders, who had been receiving treatment in hthe ospital, died from their injuries. The most recent victim, Aderemi Adeoye, passed away on September 1 after undergoing surgery and spending days on life support.
