Residents of Lakowe’s Orita Adeba and Sangotedo were gripped by fear on Saturday as suspected Lagos cult clashes left two young men brutally murdered in separate attacks believed to be reprisals.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that one victim was ambushed with machetes at Orita Adeba, near Lakowe Bus Stop, before being left lifeless by the roadside. Disturbingly, his right wrist was severed and taken away by the attackers. A short video circulating online showed the dreadlocked victim in brown shorts and a white vest, lying in a pool of blood as shocked residents gathered around.
Another local, identified as Fatai, lamented the growing wave of killings in Ibeju-Lekki. According to him, at least three violent incidents have occurred recently in Lakowe alone. “They just started killing each other. The victim is also believed to be a cult member. It has become frequent,” he said.

The latest clashes highlight rising insecurity, with cult groups allegedly using killings to settle scores and instill fear across communities.
In Sangotedo, another young man was discovered dead near a roadside culvert. A video shared on social media showed him in a white singlet and black trousers, lying motionless. Although residents linked the killings to cult activities, police authorities have yet to release an official statement.
A senior police officer confirmed awareness of the incidents but said details would be provided later. As of Sunday night, no formal update had been issued.
The spate of violence has heightened tension among residents, many of whom say they can no longer sleep peacefully. Community leaders and locals are now calling on security agencies to act swiftly to curb the killings.
