Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has clarified why she reduced her latest record attempt for the largest serving of Nigerian-style Jollof rice from 250 to 200 bags.
The event, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, attracted thousands of food lovers, celebrities, and dignitaries. Guests included Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, dancer Kaffy, and the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun. The challenge, which began Friday morning, turned into a carnival-like celebration with live music, dancing, and massive support from fans.
Speaking to journalists at the venue, Baci explained that the adjustment was due to technical constraints with the weighing equipment.
She noted that the measuring crane and custom-made scale used for the Guinness verification had a limit of 20,000 kilograms, including the massive pot itself.

Baci said the pot alone added significant weight, forcing her to scale the rice down to stay within Guinness-approved limits.
Her target was between 17,000 and 18,000 kilograms of Jollof rice, excluding the pot’s weight. By reducing the number of bags from 250 to 200, she ensured the attempt complied with technical standards while still pushing boundaries.
Baci, who rose to international fame in 2023 after her viral cook-a-thon, continues to inspire Nigerians with her creativity, resilience, and cultural pride. Her record attempt has further cemented Jollof rice as a global symbol of Nigerian cuisine.
