The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked a viral “wanted” poster falsely linking popular Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Iyabo Ojo to crime.
The poster, which spread widely across social media platforms, alleged that Ojo had been declared wanted, with a reward promised for information leading to her arrest.
In a statement issued Thursday on its verified Facebook page, the NPF dismissed the claims as fake and misleading.
The Force clarified: “Fake news alert! This ‘wanted’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading and was never posted on any official NPF platform. Disregard and stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels.”
Authorities urged Nigerians to ignore the poster and avoid sharing unverified information capable of damaging reputations or causing public panic.
The incident highlights growing concerns about fake news and misinformation on social media, especially targeting celebrities and public figures.
Iyabo Ojo, a household name in Nollywood, has not issued a personal statement on the matter as of press time, but the police’s clarification puts the rumors to rest.
