Suspected armed bandits attacked a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nigeria, on September 15, 2025, abducting approximately 40 worshippers during early morning (dawn) prayers around 5:30 a.m. The gunmen reportedly surrounded the mosque, forced the worshippers out at gunpoint after prayers concluded, and marched them into nearby forests near the Gohori axis. The victims lost personal belongings such as phones, cash, and jewelry during the raid.
This incident occurred just a day after reports of fragile peace deals between local leaders and some bandit groups in neighboring Katsina State, highlighting the lack of unified control among bandit factions, which continue operations across Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna. The Zamfara State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement, but troops from Operation Fansan Yamman have been conducting operations in the region to counter such attacks. The event has caused widespread fear, leading some residents in nearby communities to flee.
