Residents of Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State were thrown into tension on Friday, September 19, 2025, after a decomposed body was discovered on Kandahar Hill.

According to eyewitnesses, the body was found by young boys playing around the hill, sparking alarm across the community. Some rumors quickly spread that the corpse was mutilated, heightening public anxiety.

However, the Jigawa State Police Command has dismissed the claims, clarifying that no parts of the body were removed.

Police spokesperson SP Shiisu Lawan Adam confirmed that the deceased was identified as 37-year-old Ado Barau, alias Jojo, a resident of Kasarau Fagoji, Dutse metropolis, who had reportedly been battling a mental disorder before his death.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition and foul odor, detectives from Dutse Division, with the assistance of the local government welfare department, buried the corpse at the scene.

The burial was conducted in the presence of family members, traditional leaders, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, and community representatives.

The command urged residents to avoid spreading fake news that could cause public panic and instead report suspicious individuals or objects to security agencies for prompt response.
