The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has publicly accused the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) of misleading Nigerians with false claims about the refinery’s operations, including its market share, pricing, and capacity to supply fuel. This stems from an escalating dispute in mid-September 2025, where DAPPMAN criticized Dangote’s recent petrol price cuts as market-distorting and unpatriotic, while alleging the refinery supplies only 30-35% of national demand and favors exports over local sales. In response, Dangote issued statements on September 14 and 15, 2025, refuting these as “orchestrated attacks” by vested interests aiming to sabotage its distribution plans, such as deploying CNG-powered trucks.
The refinery further accused DAPPMAN members of “round-tripping” (re-importing its own products from Togo at markups) and prioritizing imports over domestic refining, despite evidence of Dangote’s exports exceeding 1.6 billion liters in recent months. The feud has intensified, with DAPPMAN threatening legal action over Dangote’s smuggling allegations and demanding subsidies to compete.
