The National Industrial Court in Abuja granted an interim injunction restraining the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association from any industrial action, including blocking roads or disrupting operations at the Dangote Refinery. This effectively bans NUPENG from stopping or barricading Dangote’s trucks, as the court ruled that such actions could cause irreparable damage to the refinery.
The ruling came after Dangote Refinery filed a motion ex parte on September 15, 2025, amid an ongoing dispute where NUPENG had barricaded the refinery entrance earlier in the month to block non-union trucks from loading fuel, alleging violations of union protocols. The court emphasized that the balance of convenience favored the refinery and that NUPENG must refrain from compelling other drivers to join strikes or frustrating business activities pending further hearings.
