Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar made a statement on September 15, 2025, criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to address Nigeria’s hunger and poverty crisis. In a press release issued through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku stated that over two years into Tinubu’s presidency, “there are no manifest signs that this government is capable of addressing the grim issue of severe hunger staring the poor in the face.” He described the widespread hunger as unacceptable, especially for the underprivileged, and warned that it could lead to social unrest, drawing parallels to historical revolutions like the French Revolution, Russian Revolution, and Arab Spring, as well as Nigeria’s #EndSARS protests.
 

Atiku emphasized that food insecurity remains a daily reality despite claimed reforms, and the government’s primary duty is citizens’ security and welfare, which he argued is being neglected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.
