United Capital Confirms Six Staff Lost
In a statement obtained exclusively on Thursday, United Capital Plc confirmed it lost six members of staff in the inferno.
“It is with profound grief that the Management and Staff of United Capital Plc announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers,” the company said.
The firm described the deceased as “an integral part of our company and family”, adding that their loss leaves “an immeasurable void”. It also announced plans for a memorial service to honour the departed staff.
Cause of the Fire
Eyewitnesses and first responders believe the fire was triggered by an inverter explosion, though authorities have not yet released an official cause.
Emergency officials noted that while several occupants escaped unhurt, “not everyone made it out alive.”
Attempts to get confirmation from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
