The Federal Ministry of Finance has announced that the Federal Government (FG) has successfully trained students on entrepreneurship development in no fewer than 100 higher institutions across Nigeria.
Mohammed Baba, Assistant Director of Finance and Accounts at the ministry, revealed this on Friday during a training session held at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.
The initiative was executed under the Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria (YOUWIN) programme, a project of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which prioritises equipping Nigerian youth with skills to become self-reliant entrepreneurs rather than relying solely on government employment.
“We have covered more than 100 tertiary institutions and with this initiative, the generation to come will be better. They have to have entrepreneurship skills to be able to fall back and grow as entrepreneurs and become employers of labour in the event of not getting a white-collar job,” Baba said.
According to him, the training is divided into two phases:
-
Plan A: Providing students with theoretical knowledge of entrepreneurship.
-
Plan B: Disbursing grants to entrepreneurship departments, which will be shared among the most qualified student entrepreneurs.
Baba advised students to maximize the opportunities provided, stressing that they are expected to become employers of labour and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s economy.
This move further underscores the government’s efforts to empower young Nigerians through innovation and business development.
