Music executive Ubi Franklin has weighed in on the long-debated possibility of a collaboration between Afrobeats’ “Big 3” — Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, Franklin revealed that while there’s no deep personal animosity between the trio, the dynamics of the music industry make such a partnership unlikely.
According to him, their rivalry is more about competition than conflict. He compared the situation to Nigeria’s banking sector, where the top banks constantly compete but maintain mutual respect.
“It would be difficult for Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy to come together. I will speak for Davido, I have never heard him for once say something ill about Wizkid or Burna Boy. And I’m sure it’s the same for them. But the environment [industry] they are in will make it difficult for them to work together,” Franklin explained.
He emphasized that the so-called “beef” between the stars doesn’t extend beyond entertainment. In his words, Davido has never gossiped about Wizkid or Burna Boy in his inner circle, and he believes the respect is mutual.
For now, fans may have to keep dreaming of a blockbuster collaboration, as the competitive nature of Afrobeats continues to keep the “Big 3” on separate paths.
