A woman in Bauchi State, identified as Suwaira Ibrahim, has allegedly burnt the private parts of her husband’s 7-year-old sister after accusing the child of witchcraft.
The incident occurred in Magama Gumau, Toro LGA, leaving the girl in critical condition. Community activist Kabiru Abdulkadir said Suwaira’s child accused the victim of witchcraft, and despite a spiritual consultation confirming she was not a witch, Suwaira burned her with a heated metal object, believing she would not feel pain if the accusation was true.
Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing the girl’s screams and insisted the case be reported to the police. The child, who sustained severe burns and is struggling to pass urine and stool, is now receiving treatment at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Mohammed Wakil confirmed the case has been transferred to the State Command for investigation and prosecution, assuring that a detailed statement will be released once the probe is complete.
