Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, defended Seyi Tinubu’s potential interest in running for the Lagos State governorship in 2027 during an interview on The Clarity Zone podcast on September 17, 2025. He emphasized that Seyi is qualified to contest any political office in Nigeria, including the Lagos governorship, and that his father’s position as president does not disqualify him. Bwala stated: “If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor? Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election.”Bwala further described Seyi as humble, unassuming, and free from scandals unlike some children of past Nigerian leaders and highlighted his reputation as a bridge builder among young people.
He noted Seyi’s history of maintaining friendships across political lines, including supporting “Obidients” (supporters of Peter Obi) in government roles, and his maturity in separating personal relationships from politics, even when Bwala himself had previously criticized the Tinubu administration. Bwala dismissed assumptions that Seyi’s charitable activities are politically motivated, arguing that Nigerians should judge him based on personal merit rather than inherited perceptions.
