The Katsina State Government, through its security commissioner, Nasiru Mu’azu, has revealed the demands made by bandits as part of community led peace negotiations in several local government areas, including Dan Musa, Jibiya, Batsari, Kankara, Kurfi, and Musawa. These demands, confirmed during a stakeholders’ meeting and reported by multiple sources, include the construction of schools, hospitals, and grazing reserves, along with support for animal husbandry.
The government has indicated it plans to address some of these to restore peace, amid ongoing banditry challenges in the state, where 341 people were killed and 495 kidnapped in 247 attacks during the first quarter of 2025 alone. This follows earlier community-initiated truces, with the bandits reportedly now protecting locals from external threats in areas like Jibia.
