The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the viral video showing students of Excel College in Ejigbo engaging in smoking (suspected marijuana), drinking alcohol, and partying inside the school’s boys’ hostel. The incident reportedly occurred in April 2025 but gained widespread attention online only recently, prompting public outrage. The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti to take over the probe from the Ejigbo Police Division, where the school’s principal (who is also the proprietor) was initially invited for questioning. The principal claims the students in the video have already graduated and left the institution.
The investigation is ongoing, with the police working alongside the school management to verify the video’s authenticity, identify those involved, and prevent future occurrences. They have urged schools and parents to enhance supervision of students.Separately, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has also initiated its own probe and deployed a monitoring team to the school. The government maintains a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior in educational institutions and has promised sanctions if the school is found culpable.
