Model Lori Harvey has shared a deeply personal health journey, revealing that she has been living with painful symptoms since she was 16 years old.
Speaking on the Sept. 16 episode of the ”SheMD” podcast with Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi and Mary Alice Haney, the 28-year-old detailed years of struggling with painful periods, weight gain, acne, and abnormal facial hair — symptoms that were repeatedly dismissed by doctors.
“I’ve been so frustrated. I’ve been going to my gynecologist because I’ve just been feeling like something’s off in my body,” she said. “But every time I go to her, she’s like, ‘You’re fine, you’re fine, you’re fine. Nothing’s wrong.’ And I was like, ‘But I don’t feel fine. I feel like something is just off.’”
Eventually, Harvey was referred to renowned Los Angeles OB-GYN Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, who discovered multiple issues during their very first appointment. This led to a quick diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.
PCOS is a common hormonal disorder affecting about one in ten women of reproductive age and can cause irregular cycles, unwanted hair growth, acne, weight gain, and fertility challenges. Endometriosis, on the other hand, occurs when uterine tissue grows outside the uterus, often resulting in severe pain and cramping.
