The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strongly condemned the assault of one of its members, Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The corps member was reportedly beaten and stripped by local vigilantes, an incident that sparked outrage after footage circulated on social media.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the NYSC management described the act as “unacceptable”, stressing that the scheme prioritizes the welfare and security of corps members nationwide.
The statement read in part: “Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of corps members and would not condone any individual or group undermining their safety for whatsoever reason.”
The scheme called for justice while urging host communities and security agencies to work together in ensuring a safe environment for corps members across the country.
It further appealed to the public to provide adequate protection for corps members in their places of primary assignment and within host communities.
The NYSC emphasized that any threat to the safety of corps members will not be tolerated.
